Optimizing APRS beacon rates based on speed and direction.

Overview

SmartBeaconing™ alters your beacon rate based on your speed and cornering. This reduces network congestion when you are stopped, but provides high resolution tracks when you are moving or turning.

Recommended Settings (Mobile)

These settings are a good starting point for vehicle use.

Fast Rate 120 sec
Turn Angle 18°

Turn Time 10 sec

Configuration Steps

1. Access Menu
Press Menu and navigate to the APRS section.
2. Beacon Settings
Select Beacon > SmartBeaconing.
3. Type 1
Ensure "Type 1" is selected (standard mobile profile).
4. Edit Parameters
Enter the values from the table above into the configuration fields.
